| FASTING is necessary for |
1. Fasting Plasma Sugar estimation - overnight fasting minimum 6 to 8 hrs. |

2. Lipid Profile/ Cholesterol/ Triglycerides/ HDLC/ LDLC estimation.
Ideally minimum 12 hrs. fasting. |

3. Serum Iron Studies – Iron/TIBC - overnight fasting 6 to 8 hrs. |
| |
Fasting implies NO tea, coffee, milk, breakfast, juices, fruits, Medications till the blood sample is collected. WATER consumption is ALLOWED at any time before the sample collection. |

All other tests such as CBC, ESR, Malarial Parasite, Liver Function Tests, Renal Function Tests, Thyroid Function Test etc do not require Fasting. |
| Sample Collection |
PP ie. Plasma Sugar Two ( 2 ) hours after having meals and regular medications.
Diabetics should follow their usual routine medication/diet and give the PP sample after lunch.
NO tea, coffee, milk, juices, fruits, for 2 hrs. till the blood sample is collected.
WATER is ALLOWED at any time before the sample collection. |

| LIPID PROFILE |
MAXI / Routine / Cholesterol / Triglycerides/ HDLC/ LDLC estimation.
Ideally minimum 12 hrs. fasting.
No heavy, fatty meal for 2 days prior to testing.
No Alcohol consumption for 2 days prior to testing. |
| URINE – Routine |
Morning or random MIDSTREAM urine sample to be collected in clean plastic or
glass container and sent to the laboratory in an hours time.
If more transit time is expected then the sample can be refrigerated in the lower
compartment for up to 4 hrs. |
MIDSTREAM urine sample |
allow the initial stream of urine to pass outside,
collect the middle stream in the container,
allow the latter part of urine to flow outside. |
URINE – CULTURE
& Antibiotic Sensitivity |
Local cleansing of the parts with soap and water.
MIDSTREAM urine sample is to be collected in a STERILE container and sent to the laboratory within 30 minutes.
If more transit time is expected then the sample can be refrigerated in the lower compartment for up to 2 hrs. |
